“LOVE CONQUERS VIOLENCE”

Inspired by the legacy of Jesús Gómez (1952–2006)

RULES
1. Purpose of the Award
On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the death of Jesús Gómez, his family and friends, also members of the Jesús Gómez Foundation, announce the First Edition of the International Literary Prize “Love Conquers Violence”.
The award aims to recognize short stories that describe, with concrete examples, the impact that the work of Jesús Gómez and other contributions have had on the improvement of many lives that have managed to demonstrate the falseness of the once frequent affirmation that love kills and that on the contrary have clarified that love conquers violence.
2. Participants
Anyone can participate, regardless of nationality, profession or age.
Individual or co-authored works will be accepted.
3. Characteristics of the stories
Stories must:
- have a length of 300 to 500 words;
- be original and unpublished;
- be written in a language accessible to the general public;
- Describe a real case related to the motto of the award.
Stories that provide concrete, rigorous and verifiable examples that can inspire other people, institutions and communities will be particularly valued.
4. Languages
Stories may be submitted at:
- Spanish
- English
- French
- Catalan
- Basque
5. Evaluation criteria
The jury will especially value:
- the relevance of the impact described;
- literary quality and narrative clarity;
- the rigor and credibility of the facts;
- the ability of the story to inspire other people;
- the contribution of the story to show how love overcomes violence and improves coexistence.

Each shipment will include:
- full name;
- country;
- e-mail;
- Title of the story.
7. Term
The call will remain open from August 8, 2026 to November 25, 2026, both inclusive.
The jury’s decision will be made public on February 20, 2027, the anniversary of the birth of Jesús Gómez “Pato”.
8. Prize
An International Literary Prize “Love Conquers Violence” will be awarded.
The jury may also award honorable mentions to those stories that it considers especially relevant.
9. Jury
The jury will be made up of people of recognized academic, scientific, literary, professional and social prestige committed to the construction of societies free of violence. As a whole, there is an unusual background of reading and dialogue of the best literary creations of humanity.
Their decision will be final.
The jury of each edition will be publicly announced by the organization. The presentation of the first edition will feature the in-person participation of Shirley R. Steinberg, professor at the University of Calgary, executive director of the Freire Project.
10. Publication
The winning stories may be published, with prior agreement with their authors, in the formats and means determined by the organization.
The organization will promote its international dissemination with the aim of contributing to the advancement of a culture of love, solidarity and the eradication of all forms of violence.
11. Acceptance
Participation implies full acceptance of these rules.
Note:
Since the Mahabharata, The Odyssey or The Thousand and One Nights, great literature has not only been a formal elaboration, but an exploration of the deepest dimensions of the human being. For this reason, this award will not only value the formal quality of the text, but also its ability to show, through real, concrete and verifiable facts, how love overcomes violence and positively transforms the lives of people, institutions and communities.
